Get out your cowbells! Cyclocross season has arrived and that means it’s time for weekly cyclocross practice. Practice will begin this Tuesday at Willow Metropark at the Chestnut sledding hill. The plan is something like this:

6:00 – Clinic, skills, and drills. If you’ve never done cyclocross before, this is your chance to learn the basics to get you started. If you have done CX before, this is an opportunity to refine those skills which can buy you precious seconds in a race.

6:30 – Practice course! I’ll have a practice course set-up and you can do laps until you don’t think you can take any more. I’ll bring some homemade barriers and the park will provide the hills.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend (non-members will need to sign a waiver). For the newbies, the clinic will be a great chance to learn about CX. The practice course will be a loop in a large open area of the park, so no matter how fast you go, you’ll always be near the group. For those with experience, this is an opportunity to practice race specific skills and pacing. The ride can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be.

Don’t have a cyclocross bike? No problem! Mountain bikes or fat tire bikes will work great for riding the course, and you can always feel free to just ride around barriers if you’d like.

Here’s a map link for the Chestnut sledding hill. I will probably move back and forth between the sledding hills at Chestnut and Washago, and maybe we’ll even try out the course from when there was a CX race in Lower Huron. So keep an eye on the weekly updates so you know where we’re going. I’ll be using Remind to send out updates and reminders. To sign up, send the message “@dcccx” to 81010. Or go to https://www.remind.com/join/dcccx.
