It's time to renew for 2020!
If you're new to our club, you can find out more on our Membership page.
As a longstanding Leader of the Southeast Michigan Cycling Community, we feel it is important to take appropriate actions to embrace, lift up, and ride with all members of our cycling family. We value inclusiveness and equality regardless of race, gender, age, religion or identity. We insist that our club members respect the dignity of all our members and our community.
With this in mind we are refreshing our social media rules for posts and comments on our official Downriver Cycling Club Facebook page and other means of communication:
DCC reserves the right to delete any comment or post that violates the standards set forth above. Furthermore, consider this fair warning: violations of these rules will get you blocked from the page and could lead to your expulsion from the club.
Additionally, the DCC Board will be working on amending its by-laws to redefine our mission to adhere to the standards set forth above. Changing our by-laws will be an ongoing effort, but one that is important to help ensure that our club is more diverse, more inclusive and welcoming to all.
We ride together,
Downriver Cycling Club
Established in 1978, DCC promotes fun and fitness through bicycling, participates in the recreational, travel and transportation uses of bicycles, and supports educational and legislative efforts for the safe and effective use of bicycles.
On the first Sunday in May, we host The Metro Grand Spring Tour (MGST). Up to 1000 riders have participate yearly on our well-organized and supported tour, enjoying country roads, redbud trees in bloom, a pancake breakfast and homemade cookies.
Proceeds from MGST make it possible for the club to contribute to the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, the Program to Educate All Cyclists, the Michigan Mountain Biking Association, the International Velodrome in Rochester Hills, Michigan Youth Cycling, Ride 2 Recovery, and more. DCC is affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists and the League of Michigan Bicyclists.
The club subsidizes many activities for members, including the awards banquet, the Last Dozen Ride and potluck, a summer ice cream ride, an annual picnic, and a trip to the velodrome. We sponsor weekly group rides organized for all seasons and skill levels. Programs and speakers are featured at meetings, our unique DCC cycling apparel is made available exclusively to members, and both Al Petri and Sons bicycle shops and Jack's Bikes offer discounts to holders of a membership card. Our monthly newsletter, the SPOKE 'n WORD, is distributed to the membership and is available online.
